Greek weddings are quite similar to traditional English weddings, but with a few fun additional extras like a preparation ceremony, money dance and lots of crazy Greek dancing that always makes me feel like I’m on holiday rather than at work! I’ve been lucky to shoot a couple of Greek weddings in London and in Cyprus and hope there’s more to come as I’ve always had such a fun time being part of the day.
I used to work with Philippa so it was lovely to receive her email asking if I’d like to shoot their wedding at Agios Nectarios Church in Streatham and reception at Northbrook Park afterwards. After getting ready at a local salon, Philippa headed back home for her finishing touches and the traditional Greek pre-wedding ceremony that involves Greek musicians, incense burning and a red material being passed around the bride by different family members. Fortunately the sun was shining so we were able to do this outside! The ceremony in Streatham was lots of fun to shoot as the priest was so relaxed about where I could shoot I was able to get lots of lovely ceremony shots. All the Greek priests have been so relaxed and it certainly makes my job much easier!
We then headed to lovely Northbrook Park for the reception, speeches and of course the traditional Greek music that makes sure everybody gets up and dances. The moneydance is always fun to shoot as well and was a great end to a beautiful Greek wedding day.
